1. Eyebrow Grooming and Eyelid Prep

Clean brows frame everything that follows, so I start there. A quick brush-up with a spoolie, then I trim only the strays that sit outside my natural arch.
Over-plucked brows from my college years taught me that lesson; sparse patches refuse to hold pigment evenly, and the pink smoke ends up floating instead of anchoring.
A primer on the lid is non-negotiable for this look.
I press a thin layer from lash line to brow bone and wait the full thirty seconds before touching it again. Rushing this step once left me with a creased mess by noon, the pink pooled in every fold.
A skin-toned eyeshadow swept across the entire lid eliminates any oil the primer missed, giving the darker crease colors something matte to grip. I skip the translucent powder set on myself.
Ben Nye Luxury Translucent Powder in Fair gets mentioned often, but on my lids it reads slightly ashy under phone light, so I reserve it for under the eyes and keep the lid prep simple.

2. Light Pink in the Crease

A light pink eyeshadow swept through the crease with a fluffy brush sets the entire temperature of this look before any drama arrives.
The Colourpop Smoke n’ Roses palette has been my go-to for this step; the range of pinks from soft mattes to subtle shimmers means you can dial the warmth up or down depending on what the rest of your face needs that day.
The crease color is where you decide if this reads romantic or edgy, so I build slowly and check the shape with my eyes open at full height, not just tilted down toward the mirror.
The BH Cosmetics Take me Back to Brazil Palette works here too if you want something more saturated to start, though I find its brights need a lighter hand to stay in the soft zone this tutorial targets.
Either way, the fluffier the brush, the more forgiving the blend, and that forgiveness matters when you’re about to layer darker tones on top.

3. Optional Orange Gradient

A true pink smokey eye can skew a little bubblegum on some skin tones, especially under office fluorescents.
An orange shadow pressed into the outer third of the lid shifts the whole temperature toward sunset, which reads as depth rather than sweetness.
I reach for this only on nights when I want the look to carry across a dim restaurant or a bar, not for daytime errands where the warmth can muddy the pink into something undefined.
The trick is keeping the orange low and blended; let it sit just above the lash line and fade upward into the crease pink rather than competing for space.
If your orange reads too red, the whole eye starts looking irritated instead of intentional. A matte terracotta or a muted rust works more reliably than anything with shimmer, which catches light and breaks the gradient you’re building.

4. Matte Black on the Outer Corner

Matte black on the outer corner is where a pink smokey eye lives or dies. Most tutorials stop at medium brown and wonder why the look reads like a costume instead of something you could wear to dinner.
The black belongs only on the outer third, pressed on with a small flat brush before anything touches the crease.
I spend about forty-five seconds patting, then two full minutes blending with a clean fluffy brush in windshield-wiper strokes toward the temple. If you can still see where the black ends and the pink begins, you have not blended enough.
The first time I tried this, I quit at thirty seconds and spent the evening looking like a raccoon in a good way, which is still a raccoon. Now I set a timer.
A dense synthetic flat brush deposits the pigment; a natural-bristle blending brush diffuses it without lifting the color underneath. The black should sink into the outer corner like a shadow, not sit on top like a sticker.

5. Cut the Crease With Concealer

A flat brush loaded with concealer draws the line between the blown-out warmth above and the clean pop below.
The socket line sits where your eyeball meets the bone, and finding it takes a moment of feeling rather than looking straight ahead.
Tilt your chin up, let your gaze drop, and press gently along the orbital bone with a fingertip until you locate that ridge.
Every eye shape carries the socket at a slightly different angle, so tracing it with the brush while your eye is half-closed keeps the arc from drifting too high or settling too low.
Keep the eye half-closed as you lay down the concealer; opening fully before it sets will lift the product and blur the edge you are trying to sharpen.
Some tutorials treat this step as optional, but **the concealer does more than define the cut.
It gives the shadow layered on top something to grip, so the pink reads brighter and stays put.** A clean crisp arc here is what separates a soft pink wash from a look that actually holds structure through an evening.

6. Poppy Pink Over the Concealer

A flat brush picks up the poppy pink and presses it over the concealer in a single layer.
The shape of that concealer arc is what keeps the pink from looking like irritation or a rubbed lid: a clean half-moon following the socket line, stopping at the center of the eye, reads as architecture rather than accident.
The BH Cosmetics shade from the Take Me Back to Brazil palette goes on almost neon in the pan but settles to a true poppy once it sits over the lighter base.
One pass is enough; the concealer does the lifting so the shadow does not have to be packed on.
Blend the upper edge where the pink meets skin with whatever is left on the brush from the crease work, but do not blur the cut itself. That hard stop is the point of the look.

7. Optional Purple Blend

The first time I laid down black pigment next to soft pink, the two sat there like guests at a party who refused to talk to each other.
No amount of back-and-forth with a clean brush closed the gap; the edge stayed stubborn and the look read patchy from any distance.
A thin veil of purple eyeshadow pressed right where the colors meet fuses them together without either one losing its identity.
I use a cool-toned violet, nothing too red or too blue, and tap it on with a small shader brush rather than sweeping, which keeps the placement tight.
Two or three light layers usually does it, blended outward with whatever pigment remains on the brush once the deposit is down.
The purple never announces itself as a third color; it just reads as the moment pink finally turns into shadow.
Skip this if your black and pink are already marrying well on their own, but when they are not, this is the fix that saves the look without starting over.

PREP YOUR LIDS - Quick dry eyeshadow primer readying your eyelids for all day makeup
8. Pink on the Lower Lash Line

A fluffy brush is the right tool for carrying the upper-lid pink down to the lower lash line.
I use the same shade I blended into the crease so the connection reads as one continuous shape rather than two separate blocks of color.
The trick is pressing the bristles flat against the root of the lower lashes and sweeping outward in short strokes, following the natural curve of the eye.
I stop about two-thirds of the way toward the inner corner and never take the shadow more than a millimeter below the lash line itself.
Any lower and the pink pools in the slight hollow there, which starts reading as tiredness instead of drama.
On deeper-set eyes this happens faster, so the margin gets even tighter. The outer third is where the color can be deepest; blending inward keeps it from closing the eye in.

9. Waterline and Lower Smudge

Black kohl on the waterline turns the pink smokey eye from soft to something that holds up under bar lighting or a camera flash.
I reach for it when I’m going out after dark or know photos are coming, because that thin dark rim makes lash lines look thicker and the whole shape more deliberate.
The tradeoff is it closes the eye down a little, which works against you in daylight or if your eyes are on the smaller side to begin with.
For those situations, the pink on its own keeps things open and fresher.
When I do line the waterline, I run the kohl along the lower inner rim, then take a small smudger brush with the same mid-tone pink from the crease and work it right at the lower lash line underneath.
The key is keeping that lower smudge tight to the lashes, not drifting down toward the cheek; a millimeter too low and the eye starts to look heavy.
Blend until you see a gradient from the black at the rim to the pink at the edge, then stop. More blending after that just lifts the pigment away.
【Easy to Use】This 4 Color eyeshadow palette glides on effortlessly without tugging or dragging. It applies so lightly that you barely feel it on your eyelids. It can be removed quickly with makeup remover, leaving no stubborn pigment residue behind.
Vibrant, Long-lasting Color: Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeshadow singles deliver high-pigment, richly saturated color with up to 12 hours of wear. The velvety-soft formula glides smoothly onto lids and builds easily, with shades ranging from soft everyday neutrals to rich jewel tones. 10. Mascara and Optional Falsies

Three coats of L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Manga Manga on the upper lashes usually gets me where I need to go with this look.
The brush has that odd 360-flexor shape that catches the outer corners without you having to twist your wrist into a pretzel, and the formula builds without clumping if you let each coat set for about thirty seconds.
I wiggle from root to tip, then use the tip to pull the outer lashes slightly upward so they wing out instead of drooping.
Falsies are where I draw the line for everyday.
Ashley Kayla used very light false lashes on her spring pink look to keep the shadow as the main focus, and I get the logic for a photo or an event where someone else is doing the work.
For my own two hands on a Tuesday morning, though, the time spent trimming the band, waiting for glue to tack up, and praying the inner corner does not lift by noon is not worth the marginal difference.
Three coats of mascara takes me ninety seconds.
Falsies take ten minutes and usually one do-over. If your natural lashes are sparse or you want that extra flutter for a wedding, a light pair keeps the look wearable.
Otherwise, the mascara alone keeps the pink smokey eye soft enough for everyday and bold enough to read from across a room.

11. Face Prep Before Foundation

A wet tissue pass clears away the fallouts and any surface oil that moisturizer will otherwise seal against your skin. Work the moisturizer in until it soaks in fully, then wait three to four minutes before foundation.
Most tutorials rush straight to the base layer here, and the result shows: product pills along the jawline or separates around the nose within an hour.
That separation happens because the moisturizer’s water content has not had time to either absorb or evaporate, so the foundation sits on top of a film instead of binding to skin.
Those minutes feel slow, but they cost less than re-blending at noon.
12. Under-Eye Concealer and Powder

The under-eye area creases faster than the lid, which is why a different setting approach matters.
I press concealer in with a damp sponge rather than dragging it, then let it sit for a minute before blending the edges. That tacky layer needs locking down, but the lid’s powder job won’t translate here.
Under-eyes need a lighter, more targeted powder application or the product settles into every fine line by noon.
I tap a small fluffy brush into Ben Nye Luxury Translucent Powder in Fair and press it directly where I concealed, avoiding a sweep that would disturb the cream underneath.
The lid can handle a heavier set because the shadow layered on top grips and diffuses any dryness; skin under the eye has no such buffer.
If Fair reads too pink against your undertone, any finely milled translucent loose powder works, but drugstore pressed compacts usually pack too much pigment and grab unevenly on that thin skin.
13. Blush and Highlighter

A pink smokey eye already holds most of the attention, so the blush placement needs to stay intentional.
I sweep a soft rose shade from the apples of my cheeks upward toward the temple, keeping the color diffuse and the pressure light.
The cheek color should whisper, not shout. If the blush sits too high on the bone or too densely packed, the face starts competing with itself.
Highlighter goes on last, and sparingly. A small tap at the high point of the cheekbone, blended back toward the hairline, catches light without adding another focal point.
I skip the nose bridge and cupid’s bow entirely when the eyes are this intense; those spots read as theatrical in photos and distracting in person.
The goal is cohesion, a face that looks finished rather than decorated in separate zones.
14. Pink Lip Cream

The last thing a pink smokey eye needs is a lip that competes for attention. A muted pink cream formula keeps the face in balance without disappearing entirely.
I reach for Miss Claire Lip Cream No 08 when I want that specific kind of soft wash.
It has enough pigment to even out the lip, but the texture stays flat and velvety, not glossy, so it does not catch light the way the eye makeup does. The color reads as intentional rather than an afterthought.
If that shade pulls too warm on you, any similar dusty rose cream works so long as it avoids shimmer. The rule is proportion: the bolder the eye, the more the lip should sit back and let it.
I blot once with a tissue after application to kill any remaining sheen, then leave it alone. The eye did the work; the lip’s job is to not undo it.
Products That Work for This Look

The BH Cosmetics Take Me Back to Brazil Palette has every pink you need for a true smokey build, though any 35-pan brights collection will do the same work if you already own one.
I bought the Colourpop Smoke n’ Roses palette after seeing it handle both soft pinks and the gray you need to smoke out lash lines without turning muddy.
It frames the eye more cleanly than you’d expect for the price, and the shimmers stay where you put them.
- L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Manga Mascara builds the spidery, dense lash line this look needs. Drugstore mascaras fail here more often than you’d think, so the extra four dollars over a bottom-shelf tube is worth it.
- Ben Nye Luxury Translucent Powder in Fair sets under-eye concealer without adding warmth that would fight the pink. RCMA No-Color Powder does the same job for half the cost if you’re not photographing the result.
- Miss Claire Lip Cream No 08 gives the matching pink lip. Any long-wear mauve-pink cream in the same depth range works; the specific number matters less than the undertone.
- Black kohl for the waterline. Pencil, gel, or cake liner all smudge out the same way.
Blending Technique

The right brush makes or breaks a pink smokey eye, and I learned that with a flat, dense shader brush I bought because the bristles looked expensive.
Packed pigment onto my lid in three seconds, then watched the color lift and streak the second I tried to soften the edge.
A fluffy blending brush, something like a MAC 217 or any tapered dome with enough give to skip across skin, is what actually moves shadow where you want it without stripping what you laid down.
Gradual building is the part no one warns you about.
Three thin layers of the same pink, each blended out before the next goes on, reads as depth. One thick layer blended for five minutes turns muddy and drifts toward the brow bone whether you planned it or not.
I have blended too far more times than I can count, chasing a seamless edge until the whole socket looked like one undefined wash.
The fix is stopping one blink below where you think the color ends, because your eye opens and pulls that shadow upward with it.
Circular motions at the edge, windshield wiper strokes through the crease, and a clean brush with no product at all to diffuse the last quarter inch.
The clean brush is the step I skip when I am rushing, and I always regret it.
Wearing This Look to Different Occasions

The full pink smokey eye with its blackened outer V and sharp cut crease reads loud; that intensity is half the point, but it is not the only point.
For a morning brunch where you still want the color story, skip the matte black entirely and keep the gradient to soft pinks and maybe that optional orange.
The look stays warm and intentional without the theatrical contrast that demands dim lighting to behave.
Work events call for a different subtraction. Drop the cut crease line and the poppy pink lid; blend a single mid-tone pink through the crease and lower lash line, then add mascara and a clean lower waterline.
What remains is structure without spectacle. The shape of a smokey eye still lifts the face, but no one in a conference room is reading it as costume.
Days when you just want color are where the tutorial earns its keep.
The full version communicates drama, confidence, a deliberate choice to be seen. The toned-down version communicates only that you bothered, which is sometimes the whole message you want to send.
The black liner and the cut crease are the dividing line between statement and suggestion. Without them, the pink registers as flushed and healthy; with them, it registers as a decision.
I have worn the softened version to a Saturday coffee run and the full version to a gallery opening, and the only person who commented on either was the barista who wanted the shade name.
That is the useful thing about this tutorial: the steps layer, and you choose how far to stack them.
